EU Directive 2024/825 · Compliance
Your green claims are now a legal liability.
Since 27 September 2026, vague environmental claims are banned across the EU — every claim you publish is exposed today, with fines of at least 4% of annual turnover for widespread cross-border infringements (or at least €2 million where turnover data is unavailable). Gilbert finds and fixes every risky claim before a regulator does.
The words you use every day are being banned.
The EmpCo Directive outlaws generic environmental claims across seven prohibition categories. If a claim is vague, unsubstantiated or offset-based, it becomes an actionable liability — on your website, your labels, your packaging, your ads.
Applies to every B2C company selling in the EU — whatever is published must already be compliant.
Fines · Fines of at least 4% of turnover
Fines of at least 4% of annual turnover for widespread cross-border infringements (or at least €2 million where turnover data is unavailable). Maximum fines are set by each member state. One unsupported claim is enough.
Market bans · Shelf to shutdown
Products can be pulled from shelves and campaigns forced offline until every claim is removed or proven.
Liability · C-suite exposed
Every public claim must be provable on demand. Marketing, legal and compliance are all on the hook.
Enforcement is live
No transition period — everything published since 27 September must already be compliant.

“The scanner makes everything much more tangible and evaluates every document in the same way. Instead of discussing whether one person thinks a claim is acceptable and another doesn't, the conversation becomes much more fact-based.”

FAQ
What is the EU EmpCo Directive?
EU Directive 2024/825, the Empowering Consumers Directive (EmpCo), bans vague or unsubstantiated environmental claims in B2C marketing across the EU. Generic terms such as 'eco-friendly', 'green' or 'sustainable' are only allowed with proof of recognised excellent environmental performance, and claims such as 'climate neutral' that rely on carbon offsetting are banned outright.
Is EU Directive 2024/825 already in force?
Yes — enforcement began on 27 September 2026 and is active across the EU. Member States had to transpose the directive into national law by 27 March 2026. There is no formal transition period: the CPC Network's non-binding Common Understanding of 30 June 2026 lets authorities phase enforcement for genuine 'old stock', but it is not an exemption.
What does Gilbert EmpCo do?
Gilbert EmpCo crawls websites, documents, and product labels, extracts every environmental claim, scores it against the seven EmpCo prohibition categories, and returns a red/amber/green verdict with rewrite suggestions and evidence checklists.
Can you handle EmpCo compliance for us?
Yes. With the managed EMPCO Service, our team runs the scans, prioritises every issue, drafts the corrections and follows each point through to closure. Your team approves and publishes. No software implementation required.
How much does Gilbert EmpCo cost?
Lite costs €12.50/month (10 scans), Growth €50/month (50 scans) and Scale €200/month (250 scans); Enterprise is priced individually. All prices excl. VAT. A URL uses one scan; documents use one scan per 10-page batch. Extra scans cost between €1.25 and €0.65 per scan, depending on volume. The managed EMPCO Service is available as a custom quote.
